In the past, several colleges and universities under the Ministry of Machinery Industry had a bearing major, but in the development process, most of this major was cut or merged into the mechanical major. The bearing major of Henan University of Science and Technology was established in 1974 and has a history of more than 40 years. It is an important bearing research and teaching and high-end bearing talent training base in China. The museum of Chinese Bearing is located in the School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering of the university, and the bearing major belongs to the School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering.

So far, the school has trained nearly 2,000 undergraduate and master students for the bearing industry, and most of these students have become technical backbones in the bearing industry. Therefore, the University of Science and Technology is hailed as the "Whampoa Military Academy of China's Bearing Industry" by industry insiders.

Henan University of Science and Technology, as the only university backed by China’s bearing industry, has now been established as a bachelor’s, master’s, and doctorate three-level authorized discipline, and participated in the formulation of China’s bearing industry’s 12th and 13th five-year plans, and undertook the independent research and development of China’s high-speed rail bearings, also participated in the research and development of a number of aviation bearings.
